As a city, and as a nation, sport is our common currency. It is also our passion." 14. Wide podium 15. Promotional video for Britain STORYLINE: The 2004 Games may have only started, but the Olympic focus shifted to the future on Sunday. Delegations from the five countries vying to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2012 presented their bids to the media in Athens. Paris, New York, Moscow, Madrid and London promised to stage a memorable event, but only one can win the right to host the XXXth (30th) Olympiad. Paris hosted the Olympics in 1924 and staged the games at the start of the twentieth century (1900) and they've promised major redevelopment plans should they be selected. New York City Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff believed that bringing the games to the 'big apple' would also help to repair strained relationships with other countries. The delegation from Moscow claimed that the Russian capital would be ready to hold the Olympics at a moment's notice, noting they have already staged successful Games in 1980. Spain's National Olympic Committee will be one-hundred years old in 2012 and played on the theme in its presentation. President Jose Maria Echevarria said he would like nothing more than to celebrate the movement's 100th anniversary by hosting the Olympics in the same year. Like rival city Paris, London has twice hosted the Olympic Games. Sebastian Coe, a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner over 15-hundred metres, is presiding over the English capital's attempt to stage the Summer Games for a third time. He said Britain's vision was to enrich the future of the Olympic movement by "reuniting the world's greatest sporting celebration with one of the world's great cities, and I can say that because I was born there." The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide which city will stage the 2012 Olympic Games in Singapore in July 2005.
