AUTHORITIES SAY ABOUT 25 SELF-PROCLAIMED PUNK-ROCKER ANARCHISTS ARE NOW FACING CHARGES RANGING FROM DISORDERLY CONDUCT TO ASSAULT FOLLOWING A BRAWL WITH POLICE ON MANHATTAN'S LOWER EAST SIDE. TODAY OFFICIALS ARE SAYING THE VIOLENCE ERUPTED WHEN OFFICERS TOLD THE YOUTHS THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HOLD THEIR "BEER OLYMPICS" AT AN AREA PARK. APPARENTLY, THE PUNK ROCKERS GATHERED IN A PRIVATE PARK NEAR PARK AVENUE. THEY DIDN'T HAVE A PERMIT AND AREA RESIDENTS COMPLAINED. POLICE IN RIOT GEAR WERE CALLED IN TO CLEAR THE PARK. BOTH THE PUNKERS AND POLICE SAY THEY WERE VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE. OVER A DOZEN PUNKERS WERE ARRESTED, AND A HANDFUL OF POLICE OFFICERS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.
