CCTV footage of one car pushing another out of a parking space BBC, London July 19, 2001 2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Freeman, Automobile Association "It is a very extreme case. But it's not unusual for people to have arguments over parking spaces. I think most people who drive have seen this happen at some point in their driving lives. And it's going to happen more often I think as pressure becomes more severe on parking spaces." Police video, Andover, Recent 3. Slow motion replay of car pushing the other out of space STORYLINE: A woman in Britain was convicted of dangerous driving after using her car to nudge another car out of a parking space. Twenty-year-old Melanie Andrews had been waiting for a car to pull out of a parking space in the town of Andover, south east England, when another car entered from the opposite side. Andrews was so enraged that she manoeuvred her red Vauxhall head on to the offending white Toyota and began to push the other car, driven by Julie Brown, out of the way. At one point, Brown's 12-year old son tried to physically stop the Toyota from being pushed out of the space. Andrews, who pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving but admitted careless driving, will be sentenced next month.

Yemen Tanker (V) - Investigation launched following tanker fire off Yemen

The Foreign Ministry has not ruled out the possibility that the fire was deliberately set, and French anti-terrorism prosecutors have opened an investigation. Yemen has been eager to emphasize its commitment to the U.S.-led war on terror and shake off its reputation as a hotbed of extremism, it's believed to have been a longtime base for suspected al-Qaida members and is the bin Laden family's ancestral home. 0.01 The fire that raged for hours aboard the French oil tanker has now been contained. 0.07 But still unanswered is the question of whether the tanker was the target of terrorists. 0.12 The Yemeni government claimed the blaze was an accident caused by an oil leak, but the ship's owner said it was a "deliberate act." 0.20 French officials say it's too early to rule out terrorism. 0.24 Part of the ship's hull was badly damaged in the fire, which left a hole three feet wide. 0.30 The intense heat of smoldering crude forced technicians trying to assess the damage to keep their distance from the tanker. 0.37 Yemen's Prime Minister formed a special committee to investigate. 0.41 While French officials say the anti-terrorism section of the prosecutor's office has opened a preliminary enquiry. 0.48 In the year 2000 a small boat laden with explosives, rammed the USS Cole as it refueled at another Yemeni port, Aden, setting off a blast that killed 17 U.S. sailors. 0.58 That attack was blamed on Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist network.

The blaze killed 14 Palestinian workers and injuring dozens of rescuers who were overcome by smoke inhalation. The factory was located inside an apartment building in Hebron. An explosion early on Thursday sparked a fire that burned out of control for more than two hours at the unlicensed lighter factory in Hebron. After about an hour, two Israeli army fire trucks stationed at the nearby Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba also arrived, and Israelis and Palestinians worked side-by-side to put out the flames. The flames and thick smoke prevented rescuers from reaching those trapped inside. Fourteen Palestinians perished in the blaze. Once the flames died down, the charred bodies of factory employees were retrieved from the building. The factory, which produced cigarette lighters on the ground floor of a three-storey apartment building, did not have a license. It was located in a densely populated neighbourhood of the city of 130-thousand Palestinians and 5-hundred Jewish settlers. The site of the explosion is in the Palestinian controlled part of the city. SHOTLIST: XFA Hebron, West Bank - October 21, 1999 1. ICR - MUST ON-SCREEN CREDIT "THE INSTITUTE OF CETACEAN RESEARCH (ICR)" Antarctic Ocean - 20 February 2013 11. Pan from refuelling vessel (red) to Sea Shepherd vessel Bob Barker STORYLINE: Australia's government said on Thursday that it would continue to fight what it calls "commercial whaling" by Japanese vessels in the Southern Ocean. The comments came after an anti-whaling activist group accused a Japanese whaling vessel of intentionally ramming two of its ships on Wednesday in waters near Antarctica. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society founder Paul Watson said he was aboard the ship Steve Irwin on Wednesday when the Japanese boat Nisshin Maru collided with it, another ship called the Bob Barker and a tanker used to refuel the Japanese whaling fleet. Japan's Fisheries Agency blamed the Sea Shepherd boats, saying they had taken the offensive and had hit the Nisshin Maru at least four times during refuelling despite verbal warnings. Watson said the Japanese ship deliberately rammed the Sea Shepherd vessels to try to move them aside and get to the refuelling tanker. He said the Japanese ship also accidentally hit the tanker. Watson said the incident, near the Australian Davis Research Base on the Antarctic coast, was particularly dangerous because the tanker was involved. "They moved in and struck the Steve Irwin twice and then they actually hit their own tanker four times crushing their lifeboat and causing quite a bit of damage. And then they pinned the Bob Barker against the tanker, almost turned it over and caused considerable damage to it," Watson told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, AuBC. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation also reported on Thursday that the Japanese whaling fleet has temporarily suspended its hunt in the Southern Ocean. The Japanese Foreign Ministry and Fisheries Ministry denied they had suspended whale hunting for the season when approached by the Associated Press on Thursday. Commenting on the AuBC report, Australian Environment Minister Tony Burke said that there was not "very much to celebrate", as long as the Japanese whaling fleet plans to resume its Southern Ocean hunt. "As long as they are intending to come back into the Southern Ocean and continue what amounts to commercial whaling, then we have to continue our action in the international court," Burke told the AuBC from Adelaide. Australia maintains the hunts violate Japan's international obligations and is seeking a ruling by the International Court of Justice in the Hague. Japan says it hunts whales for scientific purposes, an allowed exception to an international whaling ban, though anti-whaling activists say the hunts are a cover for commercial whaling. Sea Shepherd boats and the Japanese whaling fleet have had past clashes and collisions. Japan says Sea Shepherd is a "terrorist group" that risks lives through tactics used to obstruct the whaling fleet. All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 at US 2 in Everett reopened to traffic late Thursday night after closing for around eight hours after a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper shot and killed a man armed with a hammer who was involved in a road rage incident.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>According to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART), troopers responded to the road rage incident on the shoulder of I-5 near Marine View Drive (milepost 197) in Everett just after 4 p.m. Thursday. SMART spokesperson Courtney O'Keefe said the man had rammed a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) contractor vehicle and a lift that was on the shoulder of the interstate. The lift had two WSDOT contractors onboard and was operating over the slough.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>KOMO News has since learned that the contractors were with Atkinson Construction, or subcontracted for the company. Requests were made with the company for additional information about the workers who were involved in this incident.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Video recorded by KOMO News from a WSDOT traffic camera shortly after the incident began shows some type of physical altercation between the man and at least two WSDOT contractors on the side of I-5 before the deadly shooting. O'Keefe confirmed to KOMO News the altercation was the result of a road rage incident.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"There is a barrier here that divides I-5 traffic from where the employees are, so the suspect drove around that to start ramming their vehicles," O'Keefe said.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The video shows the man chasing a WSDOT contractor around the car while another contractor can be seen in the lift. The contractor being chased then jumps over the barrier, but the man was able to grab them and starts attacking them from the other side of the barricade.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"It looked crazy. I mean they were reaching in the car and fighting," said Julia Smith, an Everett resident who saw traffic detoured past her home late into the night.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>After the man stopped assaulting the contractor, he can be seen in the video walking back to his car and getting in. A WSDOT contractor then tries to stop the driver, but he reverses the vehicle and nearly hits the worker on the side of the road.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The driver then speeds forward and appears to nearly hit a WSDOT contractor vehicle with a lift that had two workers onboard, operating over the slough. The man can then be seen in the video getting out of his car and getting into the WSDOT contractor's vehicle.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Its currently unclear if the man was attempting to steal the vehicle, but he was only in the drivers seat for a few seconds before getting out and running across the interstate during rush hour.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"I think that's really awful that innocent people just trying to do their jobs on the street are getting attacked," said Chris Young, who saw the traffic back-ups caused by the incident and went a different direction.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>A WSP trooper can be seen in the video pulling up to the scene on the other side of the interstate as the man runs across the roadway.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The SMART said the man was armed with a hammer and an altercation ensued between the suspect, WSDOT contractors, and a Washington State Patrol trooper. The man was shot by the trooper during the altercation.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Law enforcement gave the man first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The WSDOT contractor who was assaulted suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the SMART.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Among those stuck in the lengthy backups were three school buses filled with fourth graders from a school in Quincy. They were in the area on a field trip but ended up trapped in their buses for hours. Finally, the chaperones reached out to law enforcement and Everett police responded.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The police department did a police escort. They had to U-turn on Broadway in that traffic the three buses, so the police escorted the kids back here, said Kelly Shepherd, the principal at Everett High School.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The officers also got food for the kids, and the children, who had brought sleeping bags with them, spent the night at the gym at Everett High School. The food service workers even provided breakfast for them on Friday morning before they continued on their way.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>I think it was just a true team effort from the police department, from our school, our school district, our departments in our district to just ensure that kids and staff had what they needed, Shepherd said.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>All northbound lanes of I-5 reopened to traffic just before midnight.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Station Notes/Scripts:</p>\n<p></p>\n<p> (TAKE PKG)</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>(01-05 Trooper Kills Suspect Following Road Rage Attack, Everett)</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>(25-29 Julia Smith, Lives in Everett)</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>(41-46 Chris Young, Lives in Everett)</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>(101-107 Kelly Shepherd, Principal at Everett High School)</p>\n<p></p>\n<p> D-O-T CAMERAS SHOW A CHAOTIC SCENE OF A MAN WITH A HAMMER CHASING A WORKER AROUND A CAR IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE ALONG I-5.</p>\n<p> THE WORKER MANAGED TO JUMP OVER A BARRIER.. CAR CHASE ON TAPE (7/30/1998)
A case of road rage leads to a wild police chase across Los Angeles
PERU: SIX DEAD IN MASSIVE PROTESTS
TAPE_NUMBER: EF00/0843 IN_TIME: 03:04:25 - 07:33:26 - 09:25:09 LENGTH: 03:18 SOURCES: APTN RESTRICTIONS: FEED: VARIOUS (THE ABOVE TIME-CODE IS TIME-OF-DAY) SCRIPT: Natural Sound XFA Six people have been killed in massive protests in Lima, where tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in protest at the inauguration of President Alberto Fujimori. Numerous government buildings were set on fire as protesters repeatedly clashed with riot police. At least 80 more people - both police and demonstrators - were hurt in the protests. President Alberto Fujimori's inauguration for a third term in office came on his 62nd birthday and Peru's independence day. But as tear gas volleys crackled, his scripted finest hour turned into his darkest one. The largest opposition protest against his decade in power and his tainted election victory degenerated into pitched street battles. Some 15-hundred students armed with clubs and hard-line workers charged and riot police countercharged throughout the day. By nightfall, things had calmed down a little but the fires were still burning in the National Bank building where four people had died. Riot police, water cannon trucks and armoured personnel carriers patrolled the streets as Fujimori was sworn in. Demonstrators taunted the police, then charged their lines. The police responded with tear gas, firing directly into the crowds. Gunshots were also fired by riot police and for hours, in fits and bursts, the battle raged from one street corner to the next. As fire raged in the 14-storey former Education Ministry, now an office tower, demonstrators wouldn't let firefighters approach at first, fighting with them for control of water hoses. Vandals tried to use a stop sign as a battering ram against the tall wooden doors of the Palace of Justice, then lobbed fire bombs through the windows, Two opposition congress members, along with other opposition leaders, tried to persuade protesters to stop hurling rocks. They ignored the pleas and police fired tear gas again. Protesters charged, pushing police back. Vandals then set fire to the 13-storey National Bank and the six-storey building across the street containing the National Elections Board, which supervised the election that many say was rigged in Fujimori's favour. In a news conference after the violence abated, Toledo blamed the unrest on what he said were dozens of pro-Fujimori infiltrators sent to discredit the protesters. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "These incidents are the exclusive responsibility of Fujimori's government. I repeat, Lima has become a military battle ground." SUPER CAPTION: Alejandro Toledo, Opposition candidate Fujimori still rates 43 percent support in opinion polls for his success in stabilising the economy and beating the Shining Path and other guerrillas who took Peru to the brink of civil war in the early 1990s.
