ICE - CREAM - O! FROM "A TO Z" REVUE
Comedy routine from the revue "A to Z" (although re-enacted outside rather than in the theatre).

"Times were indeed stirring for Stefano. (George Carney)" L/S of George Carney standing beside a little cart on wheels - presumably a mobile ice cream cart. The cart has faces painted on it. Jump cut to a closer shot of George. Fast motion of George stirring and scooping his ice cream. A short man comes up to the cart. "Ah wanta 'topper-up' guvnor." George gives him a scoop of ice cream. "Enter Bill - the Tough." A larger man enters the scene, a discussion ensues. "Ere wotjermean? I giv'yer 'arf a dollar." They have a little argument then Bill grabs the cash box and runs off, the short man gives chase.

George spots a policeman. He explains what has happened. The policeman takes out his notebook and writes notes. C/U of George gesticulating. Expansive gestures and facial expressions. He counts off with his fingers and says: "De name is Stefano Peppino Giuseppe Marco Marcelina del Beppo." He stops and thinks. The policeman says: "Don't you worry about the Tough, Mr Stefano - and - the - rest. He's run right on to "Knock-out Brown's beat. He'll catch him - he's the terror of the toughs." A very tall policeman suddenly appears holding Bill by the scruff of the neck. George shakes his hand and takes back his cash box. George points at Bill and gives the thumbs up sign. The policeman wags his finger at the tough and says "You nahsty (sic) man - I'll tell your mother about you." The policeman hits him on the shoulder - he is a bit of a camp policeman! The policeman walks off taking the tough by the ear. End.

Was an Eve's Film Review item - issue number unknown. This item may have originally be stored in another can - discovered in 1999. AMATEUR NIGHT AT CITY HALL: THE STORY OF FRANK L. RIZZO
In Philadelphia in the late 1960s and 1970s, It seemed everyone was afraid. Some were afraid of crime, while others were afraid of the police. Presiding over it all was Francis Lazarro “Frank” Rizzo, a towering figure who rose from tough cop on the beat, to law and order police commissioner, to controversial mayor of America’s (then) fourth largest city. The 75-minute AMATEUR NIGHT AT CITY HALL captures, forever, that tumultuous time and place, and the unique politician who made both his own. Newly remastered. “The New Objectivity. Balanced. Most absorbing.” - John J. O’Connor, New York Times Please contact footage@globalimageworks.com for licensing or a screener of the entire film.
