LONDON'S FAMOUS CLUBS & CABARETS - C.B. COCHRAN'S TROCADERO CABARET "AND SO WE GO ON"
C.B. Cochran's Trocadero Cabaret, London. Extracts from the show "And So We Go On." Introductory intertitle reads: "The Bal Masque - shy ladies, dancing feet and dainty dresses of other days." M/S of women and man in old fashioned clothes (bloomers and crinolines) performing a dainty dance on a small raised stage. Diners are seen at tables on the lower floor. The dancers then perform between the tables. Unusual high angle shot shows the dancers twirling around amidst the diners. Short C/U of a couple at a table. "A contrast - the gliding panther-like steps of Luise Blackburne (figure perfection!)" The stage curtains are seductively and slowly parted by Luise who then slinks around the stage in a beautiful sequined dancing frock. She does some acrobatic gymnastics and general vogueing. It is a very sexy dance. "In front, a carefree audience - behind the waiting dancers ready for the call of the curtain." M/S of a few of the chorus girls waiting to go on. They wear very cute dancing outfits - fur trimmed ice skating costumes with satin hats trimmed with pom poms.

"Winter Sports they named this whirly girly number..." The girls do a brilliant dance - pretending to skate on stage showing off their fur trimmed bloomers! "SPEED! (Some day, perhaps, Einstein may like to calculate a dancer's steps in a really fast-moving cabaret)" The girls link arms and do a little hopping dance. Then the girls do a funny jiggy dance, presumably still mimicking ice skating moves. They stick their legs in the air then bend forwards. High angle shot of part of the dance. They then jog off. "On with the dance! No time to lose..." M/S of the chorus girls in different outfits (fringed skirts and sequined hats with large tassels) backstage. They adjust their hats looking in the mirror. One bends forwards and dusts her legs with a powder puff! M/S of some of the male backstage personnel. L/S of the girls on stage doing a high kick chorus line. Closer shot of the kick routine. Short shot of dining couple. M/S of three dancers. They do the splits. "Pogo, too was there (with the help of the Griffiths Bros and Miss Lutie)" L/S of a comedy routine involving a clown and a pantomime horse. The clown attempts to get the horse to jump a fence - he refuses. In the end he just steps over it. Backstage shot of the chorus girls running up some stairs to get on stage.

L/S of the dancers on stage, all the performers pose on stage - presumably it is the end of the show. M/S of group of chorus girls in frilly outfits holding megaphones and singing. High angle shot of the chorus, they walk down off the stage, still singing into their microphones. They dance on stage - short shots of the audience. Film ends as the dance ends.

Was an item in Eve's Film Review issue number 365.

Note: this is rather a dark print - intertitles are very difficult to read on cataloguing Steinbeck.

Safety print only.
