Made by Sundial Films, this color movie presents the activities of the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Copyright 1967.<p><p>Opening: Mekong River Delta in Southeast Asia. American Navy Lt. Jets wait on Yankee Station somewhere in the South China Sea. The Kitty Hawk, 2nd largest of U.S. attack carriers. Jets take off, artillery is fired at the land, at the Vietcong. U.S. Marines board helicopters aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex CV-9 and head for land. Saigon, a Navy Chief answers the phone. Military personnel speaks (:08-2:08). East of Saigon, Navy men donate clothes to the people of Vietnam. Battleship at sea. Chet Huntley reports. Main titles (2:09-4:29). July 1964, off the coast of Vietnam, U.S. patrols South China Sea. South Vietnamese Army is training. US Navy Headquarters Support Activity in Saigon. July 1964 - increase of Vietcong forces in the South. August 2, 1964, USS Maddox tracks unknown craft in the Gulf of Tonkin. They are identified as North Vietnamese PT boats and the boats open fire on the Maddox. American spokesman speaks on the incident (4:30-7:00). Maddox resumes its routine patrol along with the USS Turner Joy. The next night, the same thing happens and the North Vietnamese boats attack the U.S. ships. President Lyndon Johnson speaks about Gulf of Tonkin incident. Jets ready on carriers, they take off (7:01-8:22). March 1965, Navy planes take off from USS Ticonderoga CV-14, a Navy/Marine Corps joint effort. U.S. Marines are on the ground. Operation Market Time is the United States Navy and South Vietnam's successful effort begun in 1965 to stop the flow of troops, war material, and supplies by sea, coast, and rivers, from North Vietnam into parts of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Patrols have 'Swift Boats,' fast boats on the water. PBR, a jet propelled craft, is for shallow waters. Operation Game Warden is a joint operation conducted by the United States Navy and South Vietnamese Navy in order to deny Viet Cong access to resources in the Mekong Delta. Can Tho on the Bassac River is headquarters for Vietnamese Assault Group 25. American and Vietnamese advisors work side by side (18:35-20:54). Troops load aboard assault boats and head up river. Marines land on a shore and exit their craft<p><p>(20:55-21:57). Americans work with Coastal Group 37. Americans check out people to make sure they're not Vietcong. American and Vietnamese advisors share dinner. Naval shipyard in Vietnam. An anchor is smashed, bulldozers at work. Navy CBs -- Construction Battalion builds a base (21:58-24:11). Civilian contractors work with Military to build throughout the country. Medical service at work. Navy's largest command serves as mechanic, administrator, electrician, doctor, and policeman.
