Turnpile DUI Stop
Guy Resists Arrest after failing sobriety tests and is chased and maced several times before eventually being shot by officers.-Wayne Wright, age 33, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, was shot and killed after a traffic stop -At approximately 8:30pm, Tpr. Rudy Zupanc stopped Wright for suspicion of DUI on the Turnpike near exit 13A in Portage County-Tpr. Christopher Barnes stopped to backup tpr. Zupanc-Shortly after Wright began field sobriety tests, he fled across the Turnpike and up an embankment-The two troopers continued to verbally order the suspect to get out of the roadway and get down on the ground-Suspect was maced, given additional verbal commands and struck with an ASP baton-Wright managed to fight off attempts by the troopers to subdue him-He fled back into the Turnpike where he attempted to stop a passing vehicle and shattered a window with a flashlight. He also struck Tpr. Zupanc a on the head with the flashlight-Troopers fired several rounds, fatally wounding him.
