After a tornado struck the small town of Rocksprings, Texas, killing 56 people and injuring another 200, the U.S. Army sent aircraft to help, including a Cox- Klemin XA-1 ambulance plane, dispatched from kelly Field. A Stretcher case being carried out to the ambulance aircraft. It taxis and takes off. A red cross on the fuselage and tail of the ambulance plane. Location: Rock Springs Texas USA. The cleanup continues following a monster ice storm which has knocked out power in a 7,600 square mile area.About 106,000 homes are without electricity and don't hold out much hope for getting it back anytime soon. The number of persons in shelters has grown to nearly 17,000. Original estimates were pegged at 10,000, but improved reporting has yielded the new figure.Crews from as far away as Maryland have volunteered to assist in re-stringing power and phone lines as well as clearing the split trees and downed power poles which litter the landscape.

WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force) nursing orderlies unload a stretcher case from the plane and a medical officer checks the injured man. The nurses then load the patient and stretcher into a motor ambulance. <br/> <br/>In a Tyneside town we see people queuing for blood tests to be taken by nurses sitting at the back of an ambulance. Pan across the queue of people - looks like mostly housewives and a few men. Good shots of the nurses taking a blood test from a woman's thumb.
