Childbirth under heavy sedation
Woman giving birth under heavy sedation, 1960s, USA. The drugs used to sedate the mother have also affected the baby, making it lethargic and resulting in it taking longer to breath on its own. The obstetrician holds the baby upside down to drain mucus from it lungs and uses a suction device to remove mucus from the newborn's mouth and nostrils. He only clamps and cuts the umbilical cord when the baby is breathing sufficiently. Film published in 1963.
