ANTI PROPOSITION 187 RALLY (1994)
THE PASSAGE OF PROP 187 IN CALIFORNIA HAS A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WORRIED THAT THE SAME TYPE OF MEASURE MAY SURFACE IN ARIZONA. PROP 187 WILL, IF IMPLEMENTED, STOP MANY PUBLIC BENEFITS FROM BEING GIVEN TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. RIGHT NOW, THE MEASURE HAS BEEN STALLED BY A FEDERAL COURT JUDGE WHO HAS IMPOSED A 10 DAY WAITING PERIOD WHILE HE LOOKS INTO LEGAL IMPLICATIONS. BUT, HERE IN ARIZONA, PEOPLE AREN'T WAITING TO SEE IF A PROP 187-TYPE MOVEMENT SURFACES HERE -- THEY ARE PROTESTING IT BEFORE IT STARTS.

ARIZONA IMMIGRATION RALLY / PRO AZ IMMIGRATION LAW
AERIALS OF THE RALLY... PHOENIX (AP) - Thousands of people supporting Arizona's new law cracking down on illegal immigration are rallying at the state Capitol. The Saturday afternoon rally follows dueling events last weekend that drew thousands of opponents and supporters of the law. Saturday's event is being held at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Park near the Capitol. The rally could be muted by soaring temperatures expected to hit 107 degrees. Rally organizer Daniel Smeriglio says the rally is a grass-roots effort and participants are traveling from around the U.S. to attend. Former Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado, GOP state Sen. Russell Pearce of Mesa and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio are scheduled to speak at the event.
