A double amputation is required due to the extent of the injury. The film shows the application of pneumatic tourniquets, the preparation of the amputation site, and the surgery itself. <p><p>At the 1:51 mark, the famous Eames' designed splint, made of pressed wood, is seen in the film. <p><p>Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
