THE DOUBLE BASS. A LITTLE EXPERIMENT BY HERBERT LODGE - AT THE PIANO LESLIE BRIDGEWATER
M/S of Herbert Lodge standing with his double bass. He plays the instrument in various ways to suggest different animals. A "prize ox" is first. Then he makes it "warble like a bird". He explains what the double bass is usually expected to sound like in the orchestra. He plucks the strings. He then plays a tune with the bow to show how it sounds "quite pleasant as a solo instrument." He is accompanied on the piano by Leslie Bridgewater. L/S of the two musicians as they play "Drink To Me Only". Some C/Us of the double bass as it is played.
Animated musicians play high and low notes on their bass fiddles, antagonizing each other. Sound waves emanate from the fiddles and from one musician's vocal chords. Cross-section of the other musician's ear responding to sound waves. Phone company industrial with brief live-action cutaway to man & boy. FIC/WA - 1950's/1960's - CLR
