HRN-3031 In: 02:29:20 Out: 02:30:02 Sound Bite: Brian Grazer – Producer – Frost/Nixon Ron Howard – Director – Frost/Nixon Brian: Well we’re thrilled to be nominated, I think I got up at 5:22 I know digital clock to see, you know there great films, we’re different, there all different from one another, it’s a really, really, hard movie to make, it’s turning ideas into something cinematic, that’s due to this guy here. Ron: I was driving along, trying to get into New York, I was struck in traffic, listening to it on the radio, so I was all alone, and getting this news, it’s sort of like a movie moment, I was beating on the steering wheel, cheering out the window, it just made me feel fantastic. A42. HRN-3031 In: 02:30:02 Out: 02:30:39 Sound Bite: Brian Grazer – Producer – Frost/Nixon Ron Howard – Director – Frost/Nixon Ron: Here’s the thing that was so amazing to me and every day I was working with him, I kind of had to remind myself about this, there’s nothing of Richard Nixon in Frank Langella, there’s nothing of himself that he could draw on, and he created this character, I just got back from Washington D.C. for the inauguration and so many journalists and politicos taking me aside and saying it is uncanny what Frank Langella did in creating Richard Nixon, we’ve never seen anything with that kind of depth and dimension and that authenticity and it’s all artistry. A43. HRN-3031 In: 02:31:10 Out: 02:31:25 Sound Bite: Brian Grazer – Producer – Frost/Nixon Ron Howard – Director – Frost/Nixon Brian: Um, listen, don’t try to prognosticate any ideas, being a trend or, don’t try to outsmart the culture. Ron: I would agree and then its tenacity and a thing that Brian you to say said, 30 years ago is, it only takes one yes. A44. HRN-3031 In: 02:32:42 Out: 02:33:35 Sound Bite: Charles Roven – Producer I think one of things that a really good producer should have is a tremendous, a lot of lateral thinking ability, because you are dealing with so many desperate different elements when your putting together a film and so many different personalities and your trying to blend this thing which is part artistic and part commercial, even dealing with the small movies are a lot of money, so the big movies are a vast amount of money, so you have to an ability to think laterally and I think that a very important quality to have and also to be very resilient, there is a tremendous amount of adversity and rejection, and so you have to a lot of faith in what your doing. A45. HRN-3031 In: 02:34:30 Out: 02:35:10 B-Roll: Michael Douglas and C. Zeta Jones get interviewed by TV crew A46. HRN-3031 In: 02:35:19 Out: 02:35:27 B-Roll: Kirk Douglas and Mrs. Douglas arrive and stand for photos. A47. HRN-3031****Sniped In: 02:35:31 Out: 02:36:02 Sound Bite: Michael Douglas – with Catherine Zeta Jones Oh, I mean, obviously coming out of the shoot “Cuckoo’s Nest”, kind of set the tone for everything “China Syndrome” means a whole lot to me in terms of it has an issue of the disarmament issue, nuclear disarmament as a result of that, “Romancing the Stone” was really a hoot, but I like a couple of the crazy whack ones, one that wasn’t seen as much was “One Night at McCool’s” which is a little later on which is a lot of fun. A48. HRN-3031 In: 02:36:18 Out: 02:36:50 Sound Bite: Michael Douglas – with Catherine Zeta Jones Taking care of the details, you know that’s the best, taking care of the details, there is a great book actually that David O. Selznick wrote that’s called “Memo” which kind of explains it keeping up with all the details. OC: What is one of the misconceptions about producers? Michael: There just involved with the money, that there always just involved with the money, but they make a lot of creative decisions and really have to have a vision normally to see it all through. A49. HRN-3031 In: 02:37:07 Out: 02:37:45 B-Roll: Kirk Douglas walks through, Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman follow, Danny gets interviewed by TV crew. A50. HRN-3031 In: 02:38:00 Out: 02:38:15 Sound Bite: Danny DeVito – Actor/Director/Producer I think you have to put your finger on everything, you know, but you shouldn’t smother it, you know, that kind of thing, be there support and you got to love it. A51. HRN-3031 In: 02:38:24 Out: 02:38:34 B-Roll: Michael Sheen walks by with wife. A52. HRN-3031 In: 02:38:34 Out: 02:40:59 B-Roll: Marquee Signage of the Palladium, “PGA Awards” zoom in and out. GVS performance modern take on Indian song and dance. STORYLINE: BOLLYWOOD STARS SHINE IN LONDON Some of the hottest names in Bollywood were on London's Oxford Street Thursday night, for the launch party of a month long celebration of Indian film culture. The bash was held at Selfridges Department Store, which is hosting the '23 1/2 Days of Bollywood' bonanza. Movie legend AMITABH BACHCHAN sparked a frenzy of screams from fans when he arrived at the Selfridges party, as did another Bollywood star MADHURI DIXIT. The actress explained the welcome is nothing Bollywood celebrities aren't used to. "I think people in India are avid movie goers and they love their stars." The Selfridges '23 1/2 Days of Bollywood' will include more than 60 live events, such as spectacular dance shows, music workshops, cat walk shows featuring Bollywood star designers, make-up sessions, food tasting and personal appearances by contemporary Bollywood stars. Bollywood set designer Nitin Chandrakant oversaw the transformation of the world famous department store, giving it its authentic Indian feel. "When I was walking on the Oxford Street I used to admire this building, it's a great structure it's like a great European structure. And when I was asked to bring Bollywood flavour so it was a challenge keeping this structure intact . In Bollywood we have colours and festivals and ritual, so including canopy and all the facades we washed with the nine colours, so it is like a really great challenge converting one interesting European structure into Bollywood." The launch party marks the start of a summer of Bollywood fever for the UK, which will be embracing a host of films, shows and exhibitions celebrating Indian cinema. Other guests included Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber whose new musical, 'Bombay Dreams', will open this summer, and leading hat designer Philip Treacy. British Asians who have already made a name for themselves were also on hand, including actress comedian MEERA SYAL and 'Bend It Like Beckham' director GURINDER CHADA. Chada says the acceptance of British Asians in the UK has whetted the British appetite for more. "I think being Asian and British is such a familiar thing now for people, I think generally people are interested in knowing more about Britain and the new Britain and the changing Britain I mean, we didn't make chicken tikka masala the number one dish in this country. I think Britain is a fantastic country in that culturally so many things go, it's great the way everything Indian is being taken up now." One of the highlights of '23 1/2 Days of Bollywood' exhibition is the full scale recreation of a Bollywood mansion, based on the home of film legend, Dimple Kapadia. It is a fusion of the traditional style of the regal rajahs and Hollywood glitz. The star herself arrived for the party ready to act as host in her new home from home. "I'm having a party and everybody's invited." Inside, guests were entertained with comedy, speeches, and music. Meera Syal caught the mood of the evening when she expressed her hope that the night was just the start of a long held British interest in Bollywood. " There's a whole craze going on at the moment and Selfridges have very cleverly picked up on it. But I hope we're not just a fashion, I hope that now the interest has started that people will continue appreciating a whole culture of the Hindi film industry."

Various dancers rehearsing STORYLINE: Beginning in London's West End and spreading quietly thorugh the UK is a quiet revolution. After years of making thousands of films, the world's biggest film makers - Bollywood - have finally managed to crack the British mainstream market. "Lagaan" ("Taxes") is the first movie produced by one of India's hottest screen superstars, Aamir Khan. Set in the 19th century during the British Raj, the film revolves around cricket and nationalism, both emotive issues for many Indians. It was shot in six months from start to finish - unusual for Bollywood where films can take up to three years to complete. The film has now been credited with a breakthrough in Britain. Showing in only 25 cinemas, it made the UK's top 10 and won widespread critical acclaim. Like other Bollywood films, it's packed with show stopping musical numbers - an ingredient that until now had been seen as a bar to success in the West. The most expensive Hindi film ever made, Lagaan is benefiting from a unique marketing deal with Sony, who are keen to cash in on Bollywood. India currently makes a staggering 800 films a year. But it's the global export market that counts. In the next five years, it's estimated that the industry will be worth two (B) billion UK pounds (2.85 billion US dollars). Bollywood's influence is seeping into mainstream culture - especially on the British music and fashion scene. In this London gym, it is Bollywood grooves that people get fit to. With a sizeable Asian community in the UK, "Lagaan" is not the first film to do well in Britain. But what is unique is its appeal to a non-Hindi speaking audience.
