There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment,” Carson Brière said in a statement provided by the team.
\n

\n
The Flyers also released a statement from his father.
\n

\n
“I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday. They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior,” Danny Brière said in the statement.
\n

\n
Erie Police Chief Daniel P. Spizarny told CNN that the incident is under investigation.
\n
“A report was recently made regarding this and it is under investigation,” Spizarny said.
\n

\n
Sullivan’s manager Julia Zukowski posted the security video on Twitter in a post that has been seen more than 22 million times, according to Twitter’s analytics.
\n
“Normally we don’t share our security footage but after watching it we were in utter disgust and decided to post the video,” she told CNN.
\n

\n
Zukowski told CNN that Nate Sanders, the bar’s head of security, is a friend of the woman who the wheelchair belongs to and had carried her down the stairs so that she could use the bathroom.
\n
“When our bouncer saw the wheelchair at the bottom of the stairs he immediately went to the security footage and found the guys who did it and kicked them out,” she said in a direct message over Twitter.
\n

\n
Sanders told CNN that his friend, who does not want to be identified, was not hurt, but was shaken up. Her wheelchair was damaged, but she is still able to use it.
\n
Sanders and Zukowski have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help replace the wheelchair.
\n

\n
Zukowski said several patrons identified Brière and the bar’s management also checked their ID scanner against the security footage to identify Brière.
\n

\n
Mercyhurst University said on Tuesday that it was investigating the incident and issued a follow-up statement on Wednesday that referenced Brière’s apology.
\n

\n
“The actions displayed in the video make our hearts heavy and fall short of our Mercy belief in the inherent dignity of each person. We pray for and are in solidarity with the victim and all persons with disabilities who rightfully find actions like this to be deeply offensive. Our Mercy tradition also reminds us that students and all people who make poor choices deserve opportunities to learn, change behaviors, and atone for harmful actions.” the statement said.
\n

\n
Mercyhurst is a private Catholic university in Erie, Pennsylvania, that has about 3,000 students.
\n

\n
Carson Brière played in 30 games for the Mercyhurst Lakers and scored five goals in the 2022-2023 season.
\n
--SUPERS--
\n

\n
--VIDEO SHOWS--
\n

\n
--LEAD IN--
\n

\n
--VO SCRIPT--
\n

\n
--SOT--
\n

\n
--TAG--
\n

\n
--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--
\n

\n
-----END-----CNN.SCRIPT-----
\n

\n
--KEYWORD TAGS--
\n

\n
--MUSIC INFO---
\n
