The 42nd annual Knight of Columbus Games are held in New York. Hayes Jones wins the 60 yard hurdles while Don "Tarzan" Bragg sets a record in pole vaulting. In the high jump, John Thomas sets out to defeat his Soviet rival Valeri Brumel but Brumel bests him with a new indoor record of 7 feet, 3 inches.

Don "Tarzan" Bragg misses clearing 16 feet in the pole vault. Ralph Boston jumps just over 26 feet in the broad jump competition. John Thomas and Valeri Brumel compete in the high jump and Brumel sets the new record.
