CELLS DIVIDE
Examining effect of radiation on cancerous cells. New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Doctors operate on a cancer patient at the New England Deaconess Hospital, in Boston. Cancerous tissue excised from patient's body during surgery is saved to test behavior of the cells when exposed to radiation. The tissues are cultivated and then.examined under microscopes fitted with a movie camera. Cells divide. Radioactive material in a pack with warning, 'Hazard' written on it. A doctor exposes cancerous tissue to the radioactive material. Cancer cells die after exposure. Exterior view of the White Plains Hospital building in White Plains New York. A child runs to a woman in front of the hospital building. She picks up the child and both smile. Location: Boston Massachusetts USA. Date: 1957.

Melanoma cell dividing, confocal light microscopy
Timelapse confocal light microscopy of a melanoma cancer cell undergoing mitosis (nuclear division) and cytokinesis (cell division). Mitosis is the formation of two daughter nuclei from one parent nucleus. Cytokinesis divides the cytoplasm of the cell in two, forming two new daughter cells. A fluorescent marker (white) has been used to highlight the cell's cytoskeleton. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that arises from melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. It is an aggressive cancer that often spreads to other parts of the body. For a square version of this video see K013/5015.

CANCER CELLS TAKEOVER - ANIMATION
Highly informative cartoon depiction of how normal cells in the human body (depicted as happy little workmen) work together and how cancer cells (scary looking black monsters) multiply and steal food from the healthy cells.
