Harriet Parsons's voice welcomes the audience to Tom Sawyer Day in Culver City, California. The mayor has decreed that all residents of the famous movie making city dress up to fit the era of Mark Twain. The huge crowd of Culver City residents are shown from different heights and angles. Men are dressed as cowboys, fire their six-shooters in the air, and run around like outlaws. Marching bands fill the air with music, and delight the passers-by. Spectators fill the streets, and even watch from the rooftops of of nearby buildings. Horses and carriages fill the roads for the first time in ages so locals can really catch the spirit of the day. Some of the vehicles on the roads come from movie studios located in Culver City, such as a surrey from the Hal Roach studios. That's not all that came from the Hal Roach lot, as Little George "Spanky" McFarland from Hal Roach's Our Gang gets a front seat in the surrey. The cast of 1938's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, including May Robson, Margaret Tallichet, Walter Brennan, Ann Gillis, Tommy Kelly, and Victor Jory, record a radio show right on the streets of Culver City. Harriet tells us that it's time for the highlight of the day, a fence white-washing ceremony. Kids run back and forth from paint can to fence to see who is the best, while Culver City residents watch.
