This device cuts off the blood supply to the foreskin, which can then be safely surgically removed. Studies have shown that circumcision reduces the risk of being infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The World Health Organisation has said that male circumcision can reduce the risk of HIV infection by around sixty percent in high-risk areas such as sub-Saharan Africa. The procedure shown here uses a PrePex device and can be carried out by trained nurses. Filmed in Rwanda in 2018.
