COLLINSON AND DEAN
No titles.

Pathe Studio, London.

Comedian Ronald Frankau appears and breathes on his top hat then shines it. He introduces the next act of Collinson and Dean, and says he would like to say more but his heart, like the glass in his dressing room, is too full for words. (This is from a later compilation - Pathetone Parade of 1938.)

Cut to comedians Collinson and Dean on a set dressed to look like a London street. The older one is dressed in a bowler hat and suit, the younger one in schoolboy uniform and cap. There is a street sign on the wall behind them reading 'Nelson Street'.

The older man asks the younger where Nelson Street is, and the younger says he knows where it is but it's difficult to get there from here. The older one says he has business in Nelson Street because he "travels in gas ovens". The younger one thinks that must be a bit hot.

Then they get into a lot of crosstalk about the schoolboy's family and the older one gets very exasperated, kicking himself on the leg at one point for getting into this conversation. The boy says he has a nephew with 3 feet and after much misunderstanding he takes out a letter from his sister that says the nephew "has grown another foot". The man tries to explain she means height, not a "feet foot", but the boy won't have it. He gets upset and says "What would you do if you grew another foot?" and the man says "Put a sock on it!".

In frustration the man puts a wire rubbish bin full of paper on top of the boy's head and walks off.

This is a good one! Very funny.

42224 10th GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE TOUR DE FRANCE 1961 RACE FERRARI RACE CARS
This epic film shows the 10th Grand Prix of Europe (Grand Prix D'Europe) and the Tour de France, beginning in Nice. Hosted by Bill Cullen, the film features terrific aerial footage and interviews with drivers and other participants. The route of the race goes from Nice to Clermont, to Nancy, into Belgium and then back to Rouen, Le Mans and Pau before doubling back to Nice. A portion of the race even takes place in traffic (47 minute mark) before heading to Corsica for the finish.

Spoiler alert, the film was won by the great Willy Mairesse (1 October 1928 – 9 September 1969). He was a Formula One and sports car driver from Belgium. He participated in 13 World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 19 June 1960. He achieved one podium, and scored a total of seven championship points. He committed suicide in a hotel room in Ostend after injury at the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans forced an end to his career.

Tour de France Automobile was a sports car race held on roads around France regularly – mostly annually – between 1899 and 1986.

The first edition was held in 1899 at speeds of 30 mph (50 km/h). The first event was won by René de Knyff driving a Panhard et Levassor. Organized by Le Matin, under the control of the Automobile Club de France, held July 16 to 24, in seven stages: Paris-Nancy; Nancy-Aix-les-Bains; Aix-les-Bains-Vichy; Vichy-Périgueux; Périgueux-Nantes; Nantes-Cabourg; Cabourg-Paris. Out of 49 starters, 21 vehicles finished. The 1908 event was won by Clément-Bayard.

The 1951 event was won by Pagnibon-Barracquet in a 2.6-litre Ferrari. The event visited La Turbie Hill Climb, near Nice. In 1954 the event was won by the 2.5 litre Gordini of Jacques Pollet and M. Gauthier, running on the traditional Nice to Nice route. The 1956 event was won by de Portago/Nelson in a Ferrari 250 2.9 with Moss/Houel (Mercedes 300 SL) in second place.

The 1960 Tour de France took place between September 15 and 23 that year. Starting at Nice it visited Mont Ventoux, Nurburgring, Spa, Montlhéry, Rouen and Le Mans with the finish at Clermont Ferrand. The event was won overall by the Ferrari 250 G.T. of Willy Mairesse/Georges Berger. The Jaguar 3.8 litre Mk. II of Bernard Consten/J. Renel won the Touring category with the BMW 700 coupé of Metternich/Hohenlohe winning the Index of Performance.

The European Grand Prix (also known as the Grand Prix of Europe) is a Formula One event that was introduced during the mid-1980s and was held regularly from 1999 until 2012. In earlier years, the European Grand Prix was not a race in its own right but just an honorific title; one of the national Grands Prix was also designated as the European Grand Prix. The first race to be so named was the 1923 Italian Grand Prix, held at Monza and won by Carlo Salamano in a Fiat and the last one was the 1977 British Grand Prix.

William Lawrence Francis "Bill" Cullen (February 18, 1920 – July 7, 1990) was an American radio and television personality whose career spanned five decades. His biggest claim to fame was as a game show host, and over the course of his career he hosted twenty-three shows and earned the nickname "Dean of Game Show Hosts". Aside from his hosting duties, he appeared as a panelist/celebrity guest on many other game shows including regular appearances on I've Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth.

Cullen hosted SPORTS CALVACADE for a brief time. It ran as an afternoon sports anthology series which covered exotic events from around the world. Much like NBC Sports In Action, which Bill co-hosted a few years later, this one-hour show was clearly patterned after the successful model of ABC's Wide World of Sports. This episode ran May 4, 1962.

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting?
