MIDDLE TENNESSEE LOST ONE OF IT'S BRIGHTEST STARS. DINAH SHORE DIED TODAY OF CANCER AT AGE 76. SHE WAS BORN AND RAISED IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND AT LEAST TWO LOCAL TOWNS CLAIM HER AS THEIRS. SHE WAS BEST KNOWN FOR HOSTING TELEVISION SHOWS BUT FOLKS IN TENNESSEE REMEMBER HER AS A FRIEND AND A PHILANTHROPIST. SHORE WAS A PITCH WOMAN FOR CHEVROLET, AUTHOR OF COOKBOOKS, PAL OF PRESIDENTS FORD AND REAGAN AND HOSTESS OF A POPULAR PROFESSIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT. BORN FRANCES ROSE SHORE ON MARCH 1, 1917, IN TINY WINCHESTER, TENNESSEE, MISS SHORE GREW UP JEWISH IN A PREDOMINANTLY CHRISTIAN NASHVILLE. SHE MADE HER FIRST APPEARANCE AS A SINGER IN A NIGHTCLUB AT THE EARLY AGE OF FOURTEEN. EVEN THOUGH HER FIRST APPEARANCE WENT WELL... HER PARENTS ENCOURAGED HER TO GET AN EDUCATION. SHE GRADUATED FROM VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY IN 1938. SHORTLY AFTER RECEIVING HER DIPLOMA MISS SHORE HAD NUMEROUS TELEVISION SHOWS THAT ENDED WITH "A CONVERSATION WITH DINAH" ON CABLE'S NASHVILLE NETWORK WHICH RAN FROM AUGUST 1989 TO MARCH 1991.
