CHAUVIN TRIAL: JURY SELECTION DAY 10 (2021)
A judge said Friday he won't delay or move the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in George Floyd's death over concerns that a $27 million settlement for Floyd's family could taint the jury pool, but he'll allow limited evidence from a 2019 arrest. Meanwhile, a 13th juror was seated Friday — a woman who said she has only seen clips of the video of Floyd's arrest and needs to learn more about what happened beforehand. The jury will include 12 jurors and two alternates, but Judge Peter Cahill said he intends to pick at two more for a total of 15 in case one drops off by the start of the trial.

Jay Garner Welcomes the start of The Iraqi Media Network
Iraq is your country. I have been here for 3 weeks now and have spent time here in 1991. I believe Iraq is a great country and I think the Iraqis are a great people. I know you have many questions. I hope that many will be addressed through a free and robust press and that is why we are launching the Iraqi Media Network. This will include a broadcast of nightly TV news, public service announcements, and Iraqi reporters will cover day to day events that will affect your lives. You will also be able to find in-depth features and developments about current world events. We are grateful for the involvement of regular Iraqis in the production of this nightly news program. We look forward to continued involvement in the moving forward of this project. And then we intend to turn it into a network and give it to the Iraqi people. You are people who have suffered too much from tyranny and you have suffered too much from war. The decisions of the Saddam regime were not your decisions but they have left your country bloodies and bruised. We are here to work with you and help you rebuild the country. We will not stay a day longer than is needed. But neither will we stay a day before we have helped you set up a stronger and better country. A Country where people feel safe to walk on the streets, receive essential services - hospitals, electricity, water. I do believe surely but slowly normality is returning to Iraq and to Baghdad. I know security is your #1 concern but it is a cruel fact that Saddam emptied his jails and let out the country's criminals as the regime crumbled. We know the situation is still not good enough and that is why we pledge to bring 4,000 more troops to come in here soon a and set up foot patrols for the law enforcement of Baghdad. This week the Iraqi police will start returning in huge numbers and the courts are open and that will make a great deal of difference in the weeks ahead. We are seeing other progress - many schools have re-opened to be followed soon by the universities, we are improving access to central utilities like electricity and potable water. The trains are starting to run and clearing garbage from streets - thousands have come back to work... successes are your successes, determination and pride and inspiration to all of us. I am not pretending things are perfect as they are not. We have a lot to go on this journey and things are getting better. Today I ask for your continued patience and dedication. Your goals are our goals and in time, together, I believe we can reclaim your streets. And reclaim this country, for the vast majority of honest and law-abiding citizens here in Iraq
