Various of power station exteriors STORYLINE: A forest fire caused the partial shutdown of a Russian nuclear power station on Saturday. The fire burned to within three kilometres of the Novovoronezhsky nuclear power station in southern Russia, coming dangerously close to a storage facility containing nuclear waste from the plant. Although there was no immediate danger to the power station, one of the plants' power units was shut down as a safety measure. The fire was put out an hour after it started on Saturday afternoon. Radiation levels are reported to be within permitted levels. Officials blamed the blaze on careless use of fire and say the perpetrators would be found and prosecuted. The nuclear station is located about 350 kilometres southwest of Moscow.
