ENCHANTMENT AND PEACE ON RUNWAY AS GAURAV GUPTA AND ROHIT BAL END DELHI COUTURE WEEK
Designer Gaurav Gupta created a fantasy world on the runway for the final day of the Synergy One Delhi Couture Week on Monday (25 JULY 2011)
He unveiled a collection inspired by the idea of an enchanted forest.
"It's actually like a whole fantasy world, it's a bit of magic realism, surrealism, a lot of art movements kind of influenced me," Gupta explained after the show.
His creations included dresses, jumpsuits, lehengas, saris and overcoats, with plenty of drapes and pleats thrown in.
The color palette ranged from white, peach and red to yellow and green, with gold and silver embellishment.
Former Miss Sri Lanka turned Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez made an appearance at the after show press conference wearing one of Gupta's creations - a grey net sari with a tube blouse.
"His outfits are so unique and so elegant and they deserve a very special occasion," she explained "So far, I haven't had an extremely special occasion to wear them to but today starts it off."
The four-day fashion extravaganza wrapped up with a show by designer Rohit Bal.
His runway was decorated with jasmine flowers and their scent filled the air as models showed off his designs accompanied by a soothing piano symphony.
The collection, titled "Shanti" (peace) had a rich look, with his signature style of floral motifs in different patterns on the garments.
Gowns, jackets, overcoats and lehengas came in a color palette including white, gold, black, blues and purples.
Bal also showcased some menwear creations: shervanis (traditional long jackets) and overcoats.
And it was a man who walked the runway as the show stopper for Bal.
Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal, in black shirt and trousers with a velvet jacket and black shades.
The star unbuttoned his jacket to reveal a shirt bearing the words "show stopper" emblazoned in metallic lettering.
