GIRLS BEWARE 1961 - Girls Beware is a trilogy of tragedies brought about by teenage girls' attempts at independent behavior. Covers do's and don'ts in the babysitting situation. Develops the problem of the 'PICK UP' and the girls who go with boys that are too old. The first, a story of a young woman who accepts a babysitting job from a man whom she does not know, ends with a report that her body has been found on a lonely desert road. As Norma Neufner (the policewoman who narrates the film) says, ""You can never find the right words to tell a mother her daughter has been murdered. Judy hadn't done anything wrong, she'd only been careless."" The second part tells how two young teens, craving male attention, permit themselves to be picked up by two older boys they meet at the movies, boys who are strangers. Sally's mother wisely forbids her from going out with the boys again, but Elizabeth rides up to the top of ""Lookout Peak"" (actually San Pedro Hill in Los Angeles County) with the two and pays a high price for her adventurism. The third story concerns Mary and Robert, who meet at the ""Ah-Ha"" hamburger stand, an artifact of the early sixties L.A. landscape. In this environment, kids enjoy a great deal of freedom, and it's precisely unrestrained freedom that will get them into trouble. Mary meets Robert, who ""frequented the malt shop in his spare time, which was considerable as he had finished high school and didn't work. Here he sought out the company of young teenagers because he wasn't accepted by those of his own age group."" Robert, a slacker par excellence, corrupts Mary. In the words of Patrolwoman Neufner, ""They began to go to secluded places and their relationship became more intimate. Mary knew things were getting out of hand because Bob became more and more demanding, but not wishing to lose his friendship, or the prestige she enjoyed from her friends from having an older boyfriend, she complied with his desires."" The camera rises from the couple making out on the ground to a shot of the trees and sky, somehow alluding to an unspeakable reality. ""Then Mary found she was in trouble and had to tell her parents. But now it was too late for advice and Mary had to be taken out of school and placed under the guidance of juvenile authorities."

It presents news from the Pacific Theater including the use of kamikaze attacks, the Battle of Naha, the Borneo Invasion and, in the European Theater, the end of the Nazi regime in Germany/Norway. Copyright 1945. <p><p>Opening titles: U.S. Navy Combat Bulletin No. 6. Kamikaze Attack (:07-:28). Map shows the country of Japan. Kamikaze planes perform suicide attacks against the U.S. fleet in the Pacific. A kamikaze plane misses the ship and crashes into the water. Other Japanese planes crash into the or near the ships (:29-1:51). Japan uses all types of planes for suicide attacks. Kamikaze planes being shot at during the night. Kamikaze planes attack a U.S. task force but most miss their targets and hit the water. The aircraft carrier Bunker Hill is hit on the morning of May 11, 1945, while supporting the invasion of Okinawa. USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) was struck and severely damaged by two Japanese kamikaze planes. Huge fires on board. Men use hoses to put out the flames. Casualties exceeded 600, including 352 confirmed dead and an additional 41 missing; 264 wounded, the second heaviest personnel losses suffered by any carrier to survive the war after USS Franklin. After the attack, Bunker Hill returned to the U.S. mainland and was still under repair when hostilities ended.<p>(1:52-4:46). The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka is shown being examined by American personnel. This was a purpose-built, rocket-powered human-guided kamikaze attack aircraft employed by Japan against Allied ships towards the end of the Pacific War. Known as the " Baka Bomb " it had to be carried into action as a parasite aircraft. In action during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, Ohkas were able to sink or damage some escort vessels and transport ships but no major warships were ever hit. Improved versions which attempted to overcome the aircraft's shortcomings were developed too late to be deployed. The Allied reporting name for the Ohka was "Baka". - this bomb is dismantled by Americans they have confiscated. Damaged planes and wreckage. Dead bodies of the Japanese (4:47-5:51). Around that time they were making Platoon and Hamburger Hill and a lot of friends who were in those movies and uh I auditioned for some of them and just that world was happening, it always seemed fun to me the idea of actors going off and doing this fake boot camps and talking about like it changed their lives, um which I understand it probably did but it’s nothing compared to the real reality of war so that satirizing that aspect of it was always interesting to me, and uh I loved those movies I think that they’re you know it’s a very uniquely American genre and uh something that hadn’t been sort of uh done in a comedic way.
