TAPE_NUMBER: EF01/0154 IN_TIME: 14:24:59 LENGTH: 02:31 SOURCES: VNR/JIVE/ZOMBA RECORDS RESTRICTIONS: No re-use/re-sale of film/video/tv clips without clearance, music/performance rights must be cleared FEED: VARIOUS (THE ABOVE TIME-CODE IS TIME-OF-DAY) SCRIPT: xfa Title: Britney Spears in Pepsi advert Date: 6th February 2001 Location: New York Two major youth culture products collided on Tuesday (6th February) when BRITNEY SPEARS became the latest young star to go pop with a major deal with cola giant PEPSI. Practically every couple of months Pepsi will pile money into a pop act to promote their soft drink, and it looks as though Britney has hit the all-time jackpot by scoring an alleged $94 million (US dollars) sponsorship deal. In the past, artists like THE SPICE GIRLS, JANET JACKSON, MICHAEL JACKSON, MADONNA, 5IVE, and RICKY MARTIN have all signed deals with the Pepsi to help promote the soft drink. In return, Pepsi provides the artists with a massive cheque and a considerable amount of money to go towards adorning their tours with the company's famous logo. The deal between Britney and Pepsi's senior vice president of strategy and marketing DAWN HUDSON was made on Tuesday but, like all the artists who have signed such deals before her, it was not the money that made her make the deal, but her love of the soft drink. "No, first of all I love Pepsi since I was a little girl", Britney admitted sitting in front of a massive Pepsi logo. "I used to always go to Sonic and drink Pepsi cola. Other than that, I don't know. The people that they have been with in the past years, like Madonna and Janet Jackson. It's insane! And so to be able to be a part of something like that is really cool." Clutching a can of the soft drink, Britney went on stage in front of her young fans and a mass of press to be presented with none other than a Pepsi vending machine by Hudson. Britney was elated - but not as elated as she'll be when the cheque from the cola giant finally clears. Pepsi have announced that Britney will not just be appearing in a commercial, which is scheduled to appear during the Oscars this year, but she will also be adorning the cans of the soft drink as well as various offshoot products. If Britney's alleged sponsorship deal is in fact nearly $100 million (US dollars), she will be the largest-ever soft drink sponsored artist ever. MICHAEL JACKSON made $29 million (US dollars) in his deal with Pepsi, whilst most of the other artists, like The Spice Girls, The Corrs and Robbie Williams, only managed to accrue around $10 million (US dollars) for their deals. ABC (WSB) Location and Date unknown 18. Various of Pepsi trucks 19. Man pulling down shutters of truck STORYLINE A secretary accused of helping two men steal trade secrets from the Coca-Cola Corporation and trying to sell them to rival PepsiCo Incorporated was ordered to be released on bond on Thursday in a blockbuster case her lawyer likened to "a spy novel". The case centres around the alleged theft of documents and new products from Coke's headquarters in Atlanta and reportedly involved clandestine meetings, an FBI sting operation and even cash payments concealed in Girl Scout cookie boxes. Joya Williams' co-defendants, Edmund Duhaney and Ibrahim Dimson, a pair of ex-convicts who served time together at the same federal prison in Alabama, were detained pending a preliminary hearing for all three on Tuesday. Their attorneys would not say how Williams knew the two men. Williams' lawyer, Wanda Jackson, said outside the federal courthouse in Atlanta that the defence needed to see the product sample her client allegedly stole from Coke to be able to defend her properly. Jackson told reporters that the allegations against her client went against common sense. "It belies common sense that an employee could just get a trade secret out of a file, put it into a bag and walk out the door with it. I think it would have been done a long time ago if it were that easy." The suspects were arrested on Wednesday - the day a one and a half (m) million US dollar transaction was to occur. They were charged with stealing confidential information from Coke, including a sample of a new drink, and trying to sell it to Pepsi. Williams, who worked as an administrative assistant for a Coke executive at the corporate headquarters, was accused of rifling through corporate files and stuffing documents and a new Coca-Cola product into a personal bag. She had since been fired, the judge said during Thursday's hearing. The three suspects face charges of wire fraud and unlawfully stealing and selling Coke trade secrets. Coca-Cola and Pepsi, usually bitter enemies, worked together to foil the alleged trade secrets theft plot. Prosecutors praised the quick action by Pepsi. Attorney David Nahmias said it was to "PepsiCos great credit that as soon as they were solicited to buy these secrets they advised their competitor Coca-Cola company that there was a crime apparently in the works". According to prosecutors, on May 19, PepsiCo provided Coke with a copy of a letter mailed to Pepsi in an official Coca-Cola business envelope. The letter, postmarked from the Bronx in New York, was from an individual identifying himself as "Dirk", who claimed to be employed at a high level with Coca-Cola and offered "very detailed and confidential information". "Dirk" was later identified as Dimson, the FBI said. Coca-Cola immediately contacted the FBI and an undercover FBI investigation began.

One of the best and I think there's a few people there with a bit more to worry about than me." 8. Clip - Pepsi Ad DAVID BECKHAM DUELS WITH FELLOW FOOTBALL STARS IN PEPSI AD David Beckham joined fellow soccer stars from Manchester United and Real Madrid in the latest advertisement for soft drinks giant Pepsi, unveiled in simultaneous screenings in Manchester and Madrid this week (Wednesday 29 Jan) The stars play out a modern day version of a Spaghetti Western, with the two giant British and European teams facing each other in a Saloon bar. The confrontation gives way to a shootout in the street, which actually goes to penalties. Director Tarsem Singh has recreated scenes from the 'Gunfight at the OK Corral', and has used the rivalry between two of Europe's biggest football clubs to bring a little humour into Pepsi's advertising. United players saw the commercial premiere at a Manchester cinema, where most attention was focused on the most marketable footballer of his generation, David Beckham. The 27 year-old England captain should be used to this kind of thing by now - a gold statue in his image was unveiled in Thailand some time ago and a chocolate effigy erected in Japan last year, but he was still taken a little aback when he was approached to star in a modern-day Western. "I was a little bit shocked, but when they actually explained what was going to happen then - it's exciting. It's exciting for people to come down and see the advert and watch a film as well, so it's good for everyone." Argentinian World Cup star Juan Sebastian Veron rode shotgun for Beckham on the night, with Ryan Giggs, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Gary Neville in close attendance. Meanwhile a simultaneous first screening showed Real Madrid players the advert at the Spanish capital's 'Planet Hollywood ' restaurant. 'Wanted' posters had been put up around Madrid Wednesday, before midfield star Guti, Fernando Ruiz Hierro, Fernando Morientes and Roberto Carlos posed for press photographers and fans in an atmosphere that could have easily passed for a film premiere in tinsel town. The action takes place in late nineteenth-century America, where the 'Real Gang' are disturbed by the entrance of the 'Red Devils' into their Saloon, with Beckham at the head of a three-two-one system obviously favoured by the director. Beckham strolls to the bar and orders a drink - the vehicle for the sponsors to place their product at the centre of the drama - but when the bartender slides a bottle of Pepsi along the polished counter it is intercepted by Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who proceeds to take it for himself. Insulted, Beckham demands satisfaction outside and with the sun blazing down it becomes high noon. Unsurprisingly, the confrontation becomes a penalty shootout when the players throw off their coats to reveal their team strips, but not before a cameo appearance by the A.C.Milan and Brazil striker, Rivaldo, recently outlawed from Real's arch enemy, Barcelona. The twist in the tail is provided by Beckham's horse and Roberto Carlos finally appears at the end, but if the audience would like to see more, they ought to keep an eye on the Champion's League, which resumes in February. Both Real Madrid and Manchester United have every chance of making it through the second phase of the competition and who knows? There may be another confrontation between the two sides in the final.

NO LOCKS JAIL (10/23/1996)
New jail is up and running in Marysville, ohio ... it has no locks and no frills ... and the inmates have to pay to stay there! There is incentive to play by the rules for the non-violent offenders sentenced there. The inmates must stay there at night, then go out and work during the day. If they violate the rules ... they go to the big house for hard time!

It really feels like a concert. It's fun because so many fans came. It's a good chance to be with the fans." 18.SOT Jerry Yen Chen-shu (Mandarin) "I did not expect so many people to show up. But about that, I have suspended my studies because I can't work and study at the same time. It doesn't mean I'll stop forever. I'll go back to school. But right from the start I didn't promote myself as an A student." 19.Fans sing happy birthday to Vanness 20.Vanness and band looking embarrassed 21.CU cake 22.Band posing in front of cake 23.CU fans singing happy b'day, tilt up to b'day poster 24.Band posing, zoom into c/u 25. Latest Pepsi ad featuring band shown on huge screen 26.Band takes bow FANS GO CRAZY FOR F4 Taiwanese boyband F4 caused a stir when they arrived in Hong Kong on Tuesday, to promote their tv show and ad campaign for soft drinks giant Pepsi. Although not a full-fledged concert, their appearance drew throngs of young people, mostly female to watch them perform. The group, have attracted a mass following in China over the past few months, despite the banning by the Chinese Government of the TV series which made their name. The band, made up of four previously unknown actors, have provoked hysteria across Asia since starring in the Taiwanese romantic drama series, 'Meteor Garden', in which they play the disaffected student sons of four of Taiwan's richest families. A number of local Chinese TV stations bought the programme, but it was banned after just six episodes, after parents denounced the show as a bad influence on their children. The series is adapted from a Japanese comic book, and the main characters spend a lot of their time chasing girls and avoiding their studies. Despite the ban and with the help of satellite television, F4's popularity has increased with albums, t-shirts and pirate copies of the TV series selling out across the country. Their CD entitled 'Meteor Rain' has sold over a million copies, and ads for Pepsi have increased their exposure. When F4 appeared at a Shanghai shopping centre in May, an estimated 10,000 fans, mostly girls between the ages of 12 and 16, queued for up to 15 hours to see them. Local officials had to supply 5000 riot police to protect the boys from their fans during the band's appearance, which ended after 10 minutes when security guards warned of potential pandemonium. At this latest appearance in Hong Kong, the F4 boys appeared embarrassed at times with the fans' enthusiasm. Vanness Wu, was a special target, as his 24th birthday was announced and a cake wheeled out. However, their handlers, and Pepsi - which has pumped a lot of money into advertising featuring F4 - are delighted with the huge following they have. This new Pepsi ad debuted at the band's Hong Kong appearance, Jerry Yen Chen-shu has put out a solo photo album, and Vic Chou Yu-min, a solo CD. Some see the solo projects bringing the band to an end, but with their huge commercial success across Asia, there will be a lot of financial pressure to stay together.

Marriott Grand Hotel, with Pepsi billboard outside 25. Closeup, travel shot Pepsi billboard STORYLINE: Moscow is gearing itself up for the arrival of U.S. President George W. Bush. On Thursday evening, Bush will touch down in the Russian capital at the start of a two-day summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. During the visit, Bush and Putin will sign a treaty slashing their strategic nuclear arsenals to about one-third of present levels. When questioned, Muscovites are split on their views of Bush, however many remain skeptical that the summit will have any effects. According to recent public opinion polls, only 25% of Russians like Bush. The U.S. president was more popular among Russians before the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, however the scandals involving Russian athletes have heavily influenced the way Russians view the Bush and his personification of the United States. Alexander Oslon, head of the Russian Public Opinion Fund, believes that since September 11, the Winter Olympic games have been the main and most important event to have influenced Russian opinion, and in turn has left a significant mark. However, politics are far from the minds of those who hope to benefit financially from the summit. Street hawkers and stall vendors are dusting down their latest batch of matrioshka dolls - the traditional, brightly painted Russian nesting eggs - complete with portraits of Bush and Putin. Dolls painted with the images of political leaders have always been a popular buy with tourists and other visitors to Moscow, none more so with the added image of Osama Bin Laden sitting side-by-side with his western foes. During his visit to Moscow, it is believed that Bush will stay at the Grand Marriott Hotel on Tverskaya Street, one of Moscow's busiest and most fashionable streets. Already, Pepsi Cola has hedged its bets on where Bush will stay and has placed a welcome billboard outside the hotel, depicting former U.S. President Richard Nixon enjoying a cup of Pepsi with former Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev.
