WASHINGTON DC, US - JAN. 30: A regional plane collided in midair with a military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night, according to authorities. "A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. local time," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement. The plane, operated by American Airlines, had taken off from Wichita, Kansas, the FAA said. American Airlines confirmed that there were 60 passengers and four crew members on board. "American Eagle Flight 5342 en route from Wichita, Kansas (ICT), to Washington, D.C.(DCA) was involved in an accident at DCA. The flight was operated by PSA Airlines with a CRJ-700," the airlines said. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in an interview with Fox News that President Donald Trump has been made aware of the incident. Later, Trump said in a statement that he was fully briefed on the "terrible accident." "May God Bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. "I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise," he said. The US Army confirmed that the aircraft involved in the incident was an Army UH-60 helicopter out of Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Three US Army soldiers were on board a BlackHawk helicopter, a senior official said, according to reports. The source said no senior officials were on the helicopter. NEW YORK CITY, US - APR. 10, 2025: A helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near lower Manhattan on Thursday, though casualties remain unknown. The New York Police Department confirmed the crash took place “in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street," warning motorists and pedestrians on X to "expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas." Bystander video appeared to show the helicopter breaking apart mid-air as it plummeted into the river. News footage showed search and rescue boats operating in the area on a gray and cloudy day. Additional details, including the number of passengers in the helicopter, were not immediately available. WABC, a local ABC television network affiliate, reported that at least three people were killed, though there was no official confirmation of casualties. It also reported that the US Army Black Hawk helicopter had three soldiers on board. Washington, D.C. police said a multi-agency search and rescue operation is underway in the Potomac River following the crash. In a post on X, American Airlines said that it was "aware of reports that American Eagle flight 5342, operated by PSA, with service from Wichita, Kansas (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) has been involved in an incident." The airport said all takeoffs and landings have been halted, adding that "emergency personnel are responding to an aircraft incident on the airfield. The terminal remains open." TEHRAN, IRAN - MAY 20, 2024: The wreckage of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was found after hours of search operation in which a Turkish Akinci drone helped to locate the crash site on Monday, May 20.  Following detection by Akinci UAV, the Iranian Red Crescent announced that they found the location of helicopter wreckage.  After the helicopter carrying Raisi crashed, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense assigned an Akinci UAV and a Cougar type helicopter with night vision capabilities to participate in search activities. President Raisi had attended the inauguration ceremony for a dam on the Iran-Azerbaijan border on Sunday by helicopter. Iranian state television reported that the accident occurred when Raisi's helicopter made a hard landing while returning from the region.
