70084 1920s FORD TRIMOTOR FLIGHT OVER MANHATTAN & CHICAGO AIR RACES 1928
This silent 16m home movie contains various scenes of aviation in the 1920s. The start of the film shows a Ford TriMotor in operation. The sign at 1:53 says that this is the "Remrand", an airplane that was owned by Remington Rand and tail #NC1780, built in 1927. It's unclear who was flying on the airplane, but it definitely looks like an inaugural flight of some kind. This 4-AT-11 airplane flew for both Safety Airlines, later reorganized as New York Safety Airlines. At 4:15 there is footage over Manhattan including in-flight shots of the plane's engine.

At 5:54, a second home movie is spliced on. This shows the wreck of a biplane, tail #NC 5480, a Waco GXE. We haven't been able to find information about this aircraft but according to the canister it was flown by aviatrix Ruth Nichols. The aircraft was participating in the 1928 Chicago National Air Races which you will get a glimpse of starting at 7 minutes. At 7:04 a Waco NC604N that won the Ford Tour Ford Reliability Tour of 1929 is seen, flown by John Livingtson. At 7:15 a merry go round is shown. Flappers are briefly seen looking at airplanes. At 7:52 a gyrocopter is seen flying over the air show.

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
