Tucker Execution Chamber (01/28/1998)
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals today said they would not impede the execution of convicted killer Karla Faye Tucker. It's scheduled for next Tuesday. Now the fate of Ms. Tucker is in the hands of the state Board of Pardons and Paroles. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Tucker's appeal last year. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles is still considering commuting her sentence to life in prison. Governor George W. Bush must ultimately grant clemency at this point. Last week, Tucker contested the state's procedure for commuting death sentences. She argued that the law sets no rules for consideration of clemency by parole board members.
