Popular music performer Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs was charged with weapons possession on Monday after police found a stolen pistol in his car.
Also questioned but later released without being charged was his singer-actress girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.
They'd just left a New York nightclub where three people had been shot and wounded earlier in the night.
A rapper known as "Shyne" was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Once again, one of the U-S's top rappers found himself at the centre of unwanted publicity.
Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs was charged with possession of a gun and made this statement shortly after being released on bail set at 10-thousand U-S dollars.

"I do not own a gun, I do not carry a gun. The charges against me are 100 percent false and I feel confident that in the next couple of days that, you know, I'll be vindicated and everything will be alright. Thank you very much."

Club N-Y, a Times Square nightclub, was the scene of the shooting in which three people were wounded.
A short time afterwards, hip-hop star Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were stopped while trying to leave the nightclub.
Police then searched Combs' vehicle and found a stolen pistol.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the gun had been reported stolen from Georgia.
Combs was charged with possession of both a weapon and stolen property.
Also in the car were Combs' driver and bodyguard.
They were also charged with criminal possession of a gun and of stolen property.
The bodyguard, Anthony Jones, was also charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.
Jennifer Lopez was later released after 10 hours of questioning without being charged.
Both Lopez and Combs' denied having anything to do with the gun.
Their lawyer said they'd merely been escaping a dangerous situation which they saw as potentially "life-threatening".
Police said the shots were fired by Jamal Barrow, a little-known rapper also known as Shyne who was found outside the club with a pistol.
Two of the victims were in stable condition on Monday, and the third refused medical attention.
Combs was arrested in April for allegedly beating record executive Steven Stoute, who suffered a broken arm and a broken jaw.
Stoute said the rapper was one of three assailants.
Originally charged with assault, Combs pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, harassment, and was ordered to undergo counselling.
