4. SOT Tania: "Well it is a fantastic event to be performing at, it is just going to be such a great show, we are debuting a new single and we will be the opening act on the night so that is exciting for us. I think it is going to be broadcast on June the tenth, so that is very exciting, and of course you know we are a classically trained string quartet so we believe that we have a place here, and it should be a really exciting night for all of us."
5. Nigel Kennedy performing at classical Brits 2000
6. SOT Rob Dickens, chairman BPI: The great thing about the classical Brits is that it is open to every level, you can come in and there will be enjoyment form all kinds of music that forms from the basis of classical music. Nigel Kennedy will be repeating, he was just such a hit last year, we just couldn't go and not have him do the second one, and he is a great supporter and I spoke to him the other day, and the whole idea of the classical Brits he completely understands and supports. And we have just heard in the last few days that Simon rattle will be conducting one of his most famous pieces and will be joining us on the night, so a pretty fabulous evening it is going to be."
7. Music clip - Russell Watson performing "Nessun Dorma" (Classical Brit nominee)
8. SOT Angela Rippon, TV presenter and judge of album of the year: "Classical music can appeal to all the emotions, it can make you very happy, it can make you very sad, it can make you want to get up and dance, but it really does appeal to every one of your senses and something like the classic Brit awards on national television gives everyone an opportunity to say yes that is what classical music is all about in the twenty first century."
9. Music clip - "Dream A Dream", Charlotte Church
10. SOT Tania: "We just see ourselves as normal people, very natural, I mean we style ourselves, we don't have a stylist, we are not told what to say and how to act. I guess the sexy tag is always going to some along when it is four young women doing something like we are doing in the public eye, but we just think it is quite funny because we see each other first thing in the morning when we come out of hotel rooms going..."

12. SOT Haylie: "The classical Brit awards,we actually watched it in television last year as a group having pizza, but it is such an amazing occasion, and it brings a really wide audience into classical music that normally wouldn't be exposed to it, as you were asking before, so the classical Brits is a positive thing for classical music and introducing a whole new audience of people to it."

POP GOES THE CLASSICAL BRITS
==============================
The shortlist for the Classical Brit Awards has been unveiled, and pits William Orbit against soprano CHARLOTTE CHURCH and the soundtrack to Gladiator.
Orbit, best known for his work producing All Saints and Madonna has been nominated for best album with 'Pieces in a Modern Style' - initially disqualified from the classical charts because of his association with pop, but later reinstated.
The sexy string quartet BOND, whose album was excluded from the classical charts for similar reasons, will be performing at the event alongside violinist Kennedy (who has dropped his first name, Nigel), tenor Russell Watson and conductor Simon Rattle.
Orbit faces stiff competition for the Best Album award, in the shape of nine other acts. They include RUSSELL WATSON for 'The Voice', ANDREA BOCELLI for 'Verdi', LESLEY GARRETT for 'I Will Wait for You', CARRERAS, DOMINGO and PAVAROTTI for 'The Three Tenors Christmas', BARRINGTON PHELONG for 'Magic of Inspector Morse', FILIPPA GIORDANO for 'Filippa Giordano', BYRN TERFEL for 'We'll Keep a Welcome', CHARLOTTE CHURCH for 'Dream a Dream' and HANS ZIMMER and LISA GERRARD for 'Gladiator OST'. The winner will be chosen by listeners of national British independent radio station Classic FM.
Russell Watson is also nominated for Best Male Artist of the year, along with violin virtuoso Kennedy, and bass-baritone Bryn Terfel.
Kennedy also has a second nomination under his belt - he's up for the critics award for his Elgar Symphony No. 3.
The Best Female Artists of the Year category includes another best album nomiee, LESLEY GARRETT, along with RENEE FLEMING and ANGELA GHEORGIU.
The ceremony takes place at the Royal Albert Hall on 31 May.This is the second year for The Classical Brits, and is due to be broadcast on British commercial television (ITV) on June 10.
The first Classical Brits awards was criticised in some quarters for being too populist but the event's defenders say it attracts younger listeners to the music and helps build audiences.
The Classical Brits are organised by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI)
