Shawn Luke, the dog, has had a rather unusual operation. He was suffering from hydrocephalus, also known as water on the brain. His owners took him to Dr. Dominic Marino, a Long Island vet, who installed a catheter in his head to act as a drain. Shawn Luke is fine and recovering at home.

A stubborn fire in the Garden Center has caused evacuations for a half mile surrounding the smoky blaze. Fertilizers and pesticides are believed involved at Franks Graden Center fire which went unchecked for three hours this morning. Ten volunteers firefighters were injured trying to put out the fire which has run to the equivalent of a 4 alarm response. They were taken to area hospitals for smoke inhalation treatments.
