Railroad accidents bring tragedy. In the mining town of Powellton, West Virginia twisted wreckage and sad-faced children mark a tragedy that claimed the lives of 16 miners when their locomotive exploded. Elsewhere in Hamilton, Ontario two express trains collide and catch fire.

FOLKS IN LA SALLE, COLORADO ARE CALLING THE TRAIN WRECK IN THEIR TOWN A "MIRACLE.” A MIRACLE BECAUSE IT DIDN'T SCRATCH A SINGLE PERSON. THE TRAIN REACHED SPEEDS OF NEARLY 80 MILES PER HOUR AND TRAVELED MORE THAN 40 MILES ON ITS OWN AFTER THE ENGINEER WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS IN THE TOWN OF NUNN. THE TRAIN WITH ONE LOCOMOTIVE AND THREE CARS CRASHED INTO ANOTHER TRAIN WITH 2,000 POUNDS OF DIESEL FUEL ON BOARD THIS MORNING. FOR SOME REASON ALL THE SAFETY DEVICES ON THE TRAIN FAILED. LUCKILY NO IGNITION SOURCE WAS PRESENT, PREVENTING A MASSIVE EXPLOSION.
