Curlew (Numenius arquata) hunting for food on waterlogged ground beside a river estuary. Curlews hunt on mud or very soft ground, searching for worms and other invertebrates with their long bills. They will also take crabs and similar items. Curlews are the largest European wading birds. They are a member of the family Scolopacidae which includes sandpipers and snipes.
