MOZART MANIA ON THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH Mozart mania swept the world on Friday - the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. The Austrian city of Salzburg where Mozart was born led the celebrations. Always a trove for Mozart souvenirs, the cobble-stoned and turreted city outdid itself this year. Store shelves were stocked with Mozart beer and wine, Mozart baby bottles, Mozart milkshakes, Mozart knickers and Mozart jigsaw puzzles - along with the usual T-shirts, calendars and coffee mugs. The composer was born in Salzburg on January 27, 1756. He wrote his first symphonies before turning 10 and his first significant opera at 12. Mozart was prolific like few others, creating more than 600 musical works before his death at 35. One woman in Salzburg told AP Television News that Mozart Year 2006 was "an opportunity to bring people closer to the work of the genius". Celebrations also took place in Vienna, where the composer lived after moving from Salzburg. One of his favourite houses in the Austrian capital was blessed by the cardinal of the Austrian Catholic Church on Friday. The man in charge of Austria's Mozart Year celebrations dismissed criticism of the celebrations. "The people that get annoyed by all this commercial stuff can take my advice - go home, listen to the second part of Mozart's clarinet concerto and all the anger is gone!"

Innocents Abroad
Trailer for the film 'Innocents Abroad' - Innocents Abroad takes an amusing look at how Europeans and Americans stereotype each other, and also examines the validity of twentieth-century-style high speed, mass tourism. It is a glimpse into an important industry which is vital to the European economy, but which also takes a very real toll on the continent, both culturally and ecologically. The eclectic soundtrack includes Mozart, Bob Dylan, Sandy Denny, Jonathan Richman, and others.

Footage of actor Tom Hulce includes clips from his films Amadeus and Echo Park, and a music video.
