Voice box during singing, endoscope view
Endoscope view of the larynx during singing. The larynx, or voice box, contains the vocal cords (white). The vocal cords are a pair of folds of membrane that control airflow through the larynx, and are responsible for the production of sounds for speech and singing. The cords open, close and vibrate to modulate air flow from the lungs, and this change in shape and structure produces much of the sound of the voice. Fine adjustments are then made by the lips, tongue and mouth.
