President Clinton is in New Orleans today talking education. He spoke to the national gathering of the American Federation of Teachers. Mister Clinton announced he would lead a White House conference on school safety on October 15th. "Teachers can't teach if they have to fight for respect or fear for their safety" he said. He said it was also vital for students to feel free and safe and to actually be in school.SOTThe president also promoted school uniforms, tougher curfews and anti-gun policies for the nation's public schools.SOTMost of what President Clinton said has been heard before, but aides say he wanted to reiterate his views on school safety and discipline.---- END ---
