Various of trucks driving by in port STORYLINE Beirut awoke to day two of the UN-brokered ceasefire on Tuesday with parts of the capital in ruins as a search for the missing went on amidst relatives' grief . Bulldozers were clearing the rubble and rescue workers working around the clock to retrieve the missing, buried under mountains of rubble of buildings laid to waste by Israeli warplanes. One elderly woman was crying for her missing son. Rescue workers say they believe there are about 16 people missing and presumed dead under huge piles of rubble. One woman told AP Television of her hopes for the fragile truce. "It's the best decision (the ceasefire) that has been taken so far. Hopefully it will last, because this is the most important thing for the country itself so it stabilises. We are facing the most important period now," she said. As families continued to return to the wasteland of destruction that now stands where the southern suburbs of Beirut once stood, an exodus of cars , carrying internally displaced people and their belongings back to their southern homes, could be seen on the highways leaving the capital. Aid agencies are beginning the mammoth task of providing humanitarian aid to those most in need and those who lost their homes and means in the 34-day Israeli bombardment. It's a task they were unable to carry out without humanitarian corridors or safety of passage during the bombing. At Beirut port, Mike Wood, Logistics Officer for World Food Programme said a convoy was going to be "loaded with trucks full of food, water and also some diesel to resupply the humanitarian hub down there(south) and to push further convoys into the south to help civilians who have been displaced by the war".
