Muslims in Nigeria welcome Ramadan by observing crescent moon
ABUJA, NIGERIA - MARCH 10: A group of Muslims gathered in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Sunday, March 10th, to observe the new crescent moon with telescopes, heralding the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a month-long Islamic holy period observed by Muslims around the world. It is a time of fasting from sunrise to sunset, during which Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and engaging in sinful behavior.
It is a time of spiritual reflection, prayer, and contemplation, as well as a time for self-discipline, self-control, and self-improvement. The fasting during Ramadan is intended to cleanse the mind, body, and soul, and to strengthen the bond between the individual and Allah.
It is also a time for charity and helping those in need, as well as for spending quality time with family and friends. (Footage by Emmanuel Osodi /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
