Invasive peach blossom jellyfish
Close-up of the peach blossom jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbii). This is a freshwater hydrozoan jellyfish that is native to the Yangtze river basin in China, but has been spread around the world and is an invasive species in many habitats. It is a small jellyfish, with a bell diameter of up to 25 millimetres. It feeds on aquatic invertebrates such as water fleas and copepods. It has a central stomach (manubrium) and four radial canals to distribute nutrients, from which hang its four opaque gonads. This specimen was found in Germany.
