Poland syndrome, 3D CT scan
Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a patient with Poland syndrome. This is a rare condition characterised by the underdevelopment of chest muscles on one side of the body. The abnormality in the pectoralis major muscle can cause the chest to appear concave. Many individuals with Poland syndrome also exhibit hand abnormalities on the affected side. The exact cause of Poland syndrome remains unclear, but researchers suggest it may be related to disrupted blood flow during development before birth. Treatment for Poland syndrome varies based on its severity and may include surgical correction.
