Apollo 11 worldwide tour, London, October 1969. Footage of the Apollo 11 astronauts meeting Queen Elizabeth II during the London leg of the global Presidential Goodwill Tour that took place from 29 September to 5 November 1969. At 0:14, from left are: Mike Collins, Neil Armstrong, the Queen, and Buzz Aldrin. Others present in the room (see clip K006/5407) include Prince Philip, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, as well as the wives of the astronauts. Officially called the Giantstep Apollo 11 tour, the route took the Apollo 11 astronauts and their entourage to 27 cities in 22 countries over a period of 37 days. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins were the crew of the historic Apollo 11 mission (16-24 July 1969), achieving the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. Around 100 million people turned out across the world to see the men who had been to the Moon. The visit to London, United Kingdom, took place from 14-15 October 1969.

The film shows Queen Elizabeth II's triumphal return to England and Buckingham Palace after her global tour in 1953-54. It shows the end of the longest tour Her Majesty took during her reign, visiting 13 countries in the Commonwealth, including the West Indies, Australia, Australasia, Asia, and Africa. During the journey, the Royal Family covered more than 40,000 miles by land, air and sea.<p><p>Opening titles: Associated British-Pathe Ltd present Welcome the Queen! (:10).
