Clip Video - IZZO (H.O.V.A), Jay Z "RAISE YOUR KIDS RIGHT" - JAY Z AND R KELLY "Your kids are your responsibility, not ours" was the message from saucy R'n'B singer R. Kelly and rapper Jay Z as they launched their collaborative effort 'THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS' in New York Yesterday (24JAN02). When asked what young people should take from the sexually explicit lyrics of 'Honey', R. Kelly replied: "We didn't get together with for the kids. This is not Disneyland, this album is not Disneyland. So you know It's up to the parents out there, you guys out there, to train your kids and bring them up the way you should. I doing mine like that, so you guys should do yours." He was rewarded with a round of applause from the hard-bitten New York press core. Jay Z added that he doesn't want to be judged on his music alone: "I would love for y'all to judge us on our actions other than the 'Fiesta' remix", he said, referring to the R. Kelly song he's previously collaborated on. R Kelly also featured Jayz's hit 'Not Guilty'. Held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, the rambling press conference was to announce what both record companies are calling a world first - an entire album made by two artists working together. Rap and R'nB artists often "guest" or "feature" on each others albums, but generally only for one or two songs. 'THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS', the album will be released globally March 26th on Jive/Roc-A-Fella & Def Jam Records. The press heard the album's first two singles 'Honey' and 'Get This Money'. Their other method of dodging the frequent questions on the high levels of sex and violence in their lyrics was to point out their plans to headline an AIDS benefit in April, as well as their previous involvement in charities. The pair are also planning to do a tour to promote the album. On hand to help promote the collaboration were Phat Farm designer and Def Jam boss Russell Simmons, rap impresario come executive Puff Daddy, Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers and celebrity lawyer Johnnie Cochran. When the panel asked Puff Daddy what this new album would mean to him he said he was there as a fan. Otherwise known as Shawn Carter, Jay-Z started his own record label fairly young and at a time when it was not being done in the music industry. Born and raised in the rough Marcy Projects of Brooklyn NY Jay-Z also known as Jazzy became a rapper on the rough streets. He formed Roc-a-Fella records with friends Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke. After partnering up with Priority Records, he released his debut album 'Reasonable Doubt'. It received critical praise and scored a gold single. His real mainstream success came with his third album 'Vol 2: Hard Knock Life' of which the single 'Can I get a...' was a massive hit. The album featured guest rappers including DMX, Too SHort, Jermaine Dupru and the hottest producers of the moment - Swizz Beatz, Timbaland. The album sold over 300,000 copies in its first week before going on to sell several hundred thousand more copies. His fourth album 'Vol 3:Life and Times of S.Carter' didn't sit too well with his fans and the album was only a modest success. He did make a huge comeback with his next album released in late 2000 'The Dynasty Roc La Familia'. His last album 'The Blueprint' released in 2001 has been a huge success. The album's leadoff single, 'Izzo (H.O.V.A.),' dominated urban radio numerous weeks before the album hit the streets, generating so much demand that Def Jam had to push up the album's street date because it was being so heavily bootlegged. R.Kelly began his career in 1992 at the tail end of the new jack swing era and has been known for his sexually charged lyrics combined with hip hop beats and funk. He has won three Grammy Awards in 1997 for his inspirational hit 'I Believe I Can Fly' from the motion picture 'Space Jam'. He has written and/or produced for Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Kelly Price, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, Mary J.Blige and Maxwell. Kelly's last album was released in 2000 with TP-2.com.
