TICKET SALES RESTRICTIONS (5/8/1998)
When a concert sold out less than ten minutes after tickets went on sale, and only a few went to people actually waiting at the box office, officials at Madison Square Garden announced there will no longer be tickets available at the arena on the first day of sale. This is in an effort to reduce mass purchases by scalpers which denies regular patrons the opportunity to get a ticket. From now on, all first day sales will be through Ticketmaster which means fans will have to pay extra fees to get into fast-selling events. Usually the Ticketmaster fees don't come near to what a scalper gets so it's a mixed bargain.
