President Clinton is in New Orleans today talking education. He spoke to the national gathering of the American Federation of Teachers. Mister Clinton announced he would lead a White House conference on school safety on October 15th. "Teachers can't teach if they have to fight for respect or fear for their safety" he said. Terror at a New Orleans day care center today. Police say a gunman fired shots at his estranged wife inside the center. She wasn't hurt, nor were any of the kids. Police say the shooting began after the woman dropped off her two children. When she returned to her car, she fund her husband hiding in the back seat. She ran back into the center, and he followed. The man then began shooting. He then barricaded himself in a house next door to the center... and was later found dead.

The center of hurricane Georges is about 150 mile southeast of New Orleans and slowly moving to the northwest. Currently winds are clocked at about 110 miles-per-hour. State authories are going to close the interstates sometime today. All transportation will be cut from the city. As well as closing the interstates no planes or trains will be going into or out of the city until the storm passes.
