Close-up of screwdriver on table STORYLINE: Polish doctors say a 25-year-old man has undergone a three-hour operation to remove a screwdriver that was lodged about five centimetres (two inches) into his head. Doctor Jan Kochanowicz, one of the doctors who treated the man in the Polish city of Bialystok, said the man "probably slipped while working in the yard". He said the man was at first aware only of pain in his hand before realising something else was wrong. He walked to his car, looked in a mirror and noticed the screwdriver, penetrating his forehead just above his right eye, Kochanowicz said. Kochanowicz told Polish television that the man smoked a cigarette before calling a neighbour who got him to the hospital. "He was stressed, but after smoking a cigarette he calmed down," he said. Kochanowicz's colleague Doctor Piotr Szydlik said the screwdriver was "stuck in the frontal lobe" of the man's brain. He said the man was now in "very good condition" but needed further treatment with antibiotics. The screwdriver did not damage the man's eyes or brain, doctors said.
