Patients with sleeping sickness, DR Congo
Patients suffering from the second stages of Sleepig Sickness which has effected their nervous systems. This disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, which is spread by the bites of bloodsucking tsetse flies. The parasites infect the blood and cause fever, headache and joint pain, before moving to the nervous system causing personality changes, sleep problems and death. It can be treated more easily when confined to the blood. Filmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
