Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) migrating upstream to spawning grounds. This species of fish is anadromous, meaning they migrate to freshwater streams from the sea to breed. They can migrate more than 3,000 kilometres upstream through freshwater to spawn. Female coho salmon dig out gravel nests on the stream bottoms where they lay their eggs. The eggs incubate for 6 to 7 weeks until they hatch. All coho salmon die after spawning. Filmed on Vancouver Island, Canada.
