The Chicago Union Stockyards almost 100 years ago. This historical time capsule shows meat, from animal to final product circa 1929. Cattle in the west, sent to Omaha and Kansas City to fatten up, and onto Chicago, Illinois. Shows the assembly lines, meat inspection, the cutting, the chopping, carrying a beef quarter on your shoulder, and the dangerous and heavy work done in the slaughterhouses of the Chicago Stock Yards.

Norwich, Norfolk. <br/> <br/>Various shots of thousands of turkeys at Broadlands Turkey Farm at Old Catton. Men turn the turkeys' hay. Mary Musselwhite puts feed in a trough for the birds. Baby turkeys, known as poults, are seen. <br/> <br/>A turkey with sinus trouble has his head cleaned by Mary and Betty Faulkner. She puts an identity ring on his leg and he is put into a pen. Another ill turkey is brought out; he has blackhead and has a pill put down his throat. <br/> <br/>British white turkeys are fed by a man. Large Broadbreasted American Mammoth Bronze turkeys are seen. One is weighed and put into a van with several others, probably headed for the slaughterhouse. <br/> <br/>Final shot shows thousands of turkeys milling about and making gobbly neck movements. <br/> <br/>Note: this is now probably a Bernard Matthews turkey farm. Made in 1949, CATTLE AND THE CORN BELT presents the story of meat and corn production in the American Middle West. It shows a typical cattle ranch and the duties of the cow-hand; transporting cattle to corn belt for fattening; typical corn-belt farm with mechanical harvesting methods; and an annual country fair. The film includes images of a slaughterhouse, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation, railroads, stock yards, packing plants, and more. The film features images of Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa (the leading corn growing state), farming and cultivation, manufacture of feed, harvesting of soybeans, silos, hog raising, cattle raising, and more. The Olson farm near Marshallton, Iowa is profiled at the 3 minute mark. Cattle from Wyoming end up at the Olson farm where they are fattened up for sale, a process shown at the 8:30 mark.
