It was filmed at the Black Maria studio of the Edison Manufacturing Company in West Orange, New Jersey. Fred Ott takes a pinch of snuff and then sneezes. Location: West Orange New Jersey USA. Date: January 7, 1894.

Experimental film fragments made with the Edison-Dickson-Heise kinetograph camera, using 3/4-inch wide film. Features Fred Ott's Sneeze: the first motion picture to be copyrighted in the United States in 1894. In the five-second film one of Thomas Edison's assistants, Fred Ott, takes a pinch of snuff and sneezes.

It is typically caused by wind-pollinated plants, particularly trees and grasses. Pollen contains the male sex cells of a flowering plant, and is dispersed by wind or animals to find a female flower.
