Various of fans BECKHAM PLAYS FIRST US GAME David Beckham took his first steps toward converting America into a soccer-mad nation with an uneventful 12-minute debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday. In the two hours leading up to the game, fans outside the stadium checked out the many merchandise stands selling Beckham soccer shirts and other memorabilia. Fans laid out big bucks on a variety of Beckham t-shirts and jerseys - costing up to 100 US dollars. Devoted Los Angeles Galaxy fans were ecstatic to see the soccer icon finally join the ranks of their beloved team. Beckham joined his new team for a friendly exhibition match against Chelsea FC. He jogged onto the field amid huge cheers and a sea of camera flashes from the sold-out crowd of 27 thousand at the Home Depot Centre in Los Angeles. But the 32-year-old midfielder spent most of the game on the bench due to a earlier ankle injury. Beckham only got off the bench in the 66th minute to warm up, exciting fans who had waited most of the game to see him play. Beckham's debut was crazy from the start - when he took his seat on the end of a metal bench, he was quickly surrounded by about 100 photographers pushing and shoving to get a shot. Beckham's wife, Victoria, wearing her trademark huge black sunglasses, watched the game from the stands. Media analyst, Michael Levine believes "there's a lot of work that needs to be done" to turn things around for the struggling LA Galaxy which "that gives a great opportunity, should they be successful, for him to appear heroic." Levine admits that for Beckham and the sponsors there, is an awful lot at stake. "This is a very high level gamble," Levine said.

What was initially Messi mania here in Hong Kong has turned into Messi disappointment. You know tonight, some 40,000 fans clamoring here for the opportunity to see the Argentine football legend but he was a no show on the pitch. Initially, there were cheers in the stands. It turned to jeers and boos even chanting up, ‘where is messy’ and ‘refund, refund, refund.’ Fans came here tonight because they wanted to see Messi play with his team Inter Miami in a preseason friendly against Hong Kong. This is Inter Miami's first ever international tour, its co-owner David Beckham also in the house as well. But when Messi failed to get up from the bench, the mood inside Hong Kong stadium, maximum capacity, 40,000 people all sold out, the mood soured, the crowds have been leaving disappointed. And joining me now is a super fan here in Hong Kong, Christer Leung, who is the head of the Hong Kong Argentina Team Support Federation, the big club here. How are you feeling tonight?</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: Very disappointed as everyone else here is. However, I am, I am not super disappointed that he didn't play because I know he's suffering from injury and he's getting older, so he needs more rest.</p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: How did you feel when people started saying ‘refund, refund, refund?’</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: I didn't like that at all. I expected it but I didn't like it and I wish it didn't continue for so long. I think they got the message. I mean, David heard it and I couldn't hear what Beckham was saying at all because they were so loud. The boos were loud.</p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: But people paid a lot for these tickets.</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: Yes and so did I, they weren't cheap, most expensive football ticket ever in Hong Kong, I believe. Um so I, I totally understand the sentiments and the disappointment.</p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: And how much did you pay for your ticket?</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: Mine was 2280 I think.</p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: And you didn't get to see your hero. You named your son after Lionel Messi. You didn't get to see him tonight. How are you feeling?</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: Very far away, and he's on the bench. I am like I said, I am extremely disappointed but I'm not about to, you know, I won't boo him. I don't think that I'll ever do or anybody. </p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: You will still be a Messi fan. What about how is Inter Miami as a brand going to do in Asia after this?</p>\n<p>Christer Jorge Leung: I will support whoever Messi plays for. But I think many people, you might see people burning jerseys for social media. You never know, right. But I heard people saying I'm going to sell my Messi Jersey and buy Ronaldo Jersey. So, I mean, I won't do any of that but I think it would definitely hurt the inter Miami brand, but they are one of the most, I guess club with the most money in MLS. So I think if they play their cards right and buy some players, they can rebuild the brand. But yeah, it definitely hurts.</p>\n<p>Kristie Lu Stout: Thank you very much indeed for that. You know, the Hong Kong government here, they were also hoping that this event would be a major draw that would turn Hong Kong into a hub for major events across the region. When you talk to the fans, it's never about the economy. It's all about the beautiful game, about the chance to see their beloved Lionel Messi on the pitch and that was a dream that was denied tonight. Back to you.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><b>-----END-----CNN.SCRIPT-----</b></p>\n<p></p>\n<p><b>--KEYWORD TAGS--</b></p>\n<p>LIONEL MESSI INTER MIAMI CF SPORTS FOOTBALL SOCCER HONG KONG ASIA</p>

(reporter question: what do you think about the Mexico game?)"I love it, it will be a war. Who better to face in the world cup? US-Mexico game is great in qualifying, it is great as a friendly even better in the World Cup." 10. Exterior of sports bar STORYLINE: US Football fans in a sports bar in Arlington, Virginia found themselves thanking South Korea throughout Friday's US-Poland world cup football game. The United States advanced to the second round of the World Cup not because of anything it did, but what the co-hosts South Korea did to the Portuguese in the other game of the group on Friday night. Needing just a tie to advance, the United States gave up a pair of goals in the first five minutes and lost to Poland 3-1 Their chances of advancement seemed over when Poland took a three-goal lead in the 66th minute, but America's hope returned just two minutes later with news of South Korea's goal. Park Ji-sung scored for South Korea at Incheon against Portugal and the South Koreans held on for a 1-0 win that put the Americans in the second round for the first time since 1994. The crowd at Daejeon World Cup Stadium, following the other game as closely as this one, went wild when South Korea scored. At first the American bench didn't know what to make of it. One US fan, who already had left the stadium, turned around with a wild-eyed look as if to say, "Could this be true?" The South Koreans did indeed score, and they won Group D with seven points. The Americans finished second with four, one point ahead of the Portuguese. When the South Korea game ended, 3:35 before the US game concluded, the crowd roared. Some of the US players held their hands to their heads, having a hard time believing it was true. The Americans began the tournament with a stunning 3-2 upset of fifth-ranked Portugal, then wasted a late lead in a 1-1 tie with South Korea. The United States team will play regional rival Mexico on Monday.
